This is Timer IC, The 555 is a highly stable device for generating accurate time delays or oscillation. Additional terminals are provided for triggering or resetting if desired. In the time delay mode of operation, the time is precisely controlled by one external resistor and capacitor. For astable operation as an oscillator, the free running frequency and duty cycle are accurately controlled with two external resistors and one capacitor. The circuit may be triggered and reset on falling waveforms, and the output circuit can source or sink up to 200mA or drive TTL circuits.

Description

LM555 is Single Timer IC. The 555 timer IC is a commonly used IC. Ultra-low-cost, precision timing circuits used in a variety of timing and pulse generation applications. This IC can be used alone or in combination with other ICs.

This timer IC can operate in three different modes:

1. Monostable mode: In this mode, it automatically resets after generating output for a certain period of time. This time is determined by the external RC network.

2. Bistable mode: In this mode, it has two stable states and switches from one state to the other by an external signal. This mode operates as a flip-flop circuit.

3. High-precision timing circuit: In this mode, it generates precise timing by itself. This mode is mainly used to generate clock signals.
